Spanish renewable energy company Acciona Energía has announced the acquisition of Red-Tailed Hawk, a 350MWac/458MWdc solar photovoltaic (PV) project in the US, from Avondale Solar and Solar Plus Development.
Located near Houston, Texas, the project will be developed by Avondale Solar’s affiliate, AP Solar Holdings, together with Solar Plus Development.
Red-Tailed Hawk is expected to enter the construction phase in the third quarter of this year and is expected to come online in 2024.
The project will be built with an estimated investment of €407m ($460m) and will be Acciona Energía’s largest photovoltaic installation worldwide.
It is expected to create 400 jobs during its peak construction phase and permanently employ 15 people once operational.
The project is expected to generate enough clean energy to power 66,500 Texas households.

By GlobalDataAcciona Energía intends to further strengthen its US presence with the acquisition of the Red-Tailed Hawk project.
The company’s Fort Bend solar farm in Texas and the High Point facility in Illinois are currently under construction.
Once these three PV plants are completed, Acciona Energía will have more than 2GW of solar and wind energy capacity in the US.
The company also owns and operates ten wind farms across the nation, with a combined capacity of 1GW.
Acciona Energía North America CEO Joaquin Castillo said: “We are excited to continue our growth in Texas, where we already have two solar projects under construction and three wind farms.
“Red-Tailed Hawk is a clear demonstration of our commitment to the US and brings us one step closer to our goal to double our installed capacity in the country by 2023.”
In November last year, Acciona Energía agreed to acquire two wind projects in Brazil from Casa dos Ventos.
The projects are located in the state of Bahia and will have a maximum combined capacity of 850MW.
