ABB plans to invest $120m to expand its low voltage electrification product manufacturing in the US.
The move aims to meet the demand from growth industries such as data centres, buildings and utilities.
ABB plans to invest $80m in constructing a new 320,000ft² manufacturing facility in Selmer, Tennessee.
This development will replace the current operations and is projected to boost production capacity by more than 50%.
The new factory, scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2026, will focus on manufacturing critical electrical distribution equipment for industrial and technology-centric facilities.
It will add 50 skilled jobs, expanding the Selmer workforce by 25%.
In addition to the Selmer investment, ABB will allocate $40m to double the size of its Senatobia, Mississippi manufacturing site.
The expansion is a response to the increased demand for advanced low-voltage circuit breakers from North American customers.
The Senatobia facility’s workforce will add 200 new jobs, bringing the total number of employees above 1,000 when the expansion is completed in the second quarter of 2026.
ABB’s investment in the US since 2022 has exceeded $500m. This includes the inauguration of a new $100m industrial electric drives manufacturing and innovation lab in New Berlin, Wisconsin, in October 2024.
A $40m factory is opening in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in April 2025, focusing on power grid hardening and resilience technologies.
ABB CEO Morten Wierod stated: “Demand is increasing steadily for advanced electrification technologies, driven by growth in key sectors including data centres and utilities.
“Today’s announcement will support our future growth in the US, ABB’s largest global market.
“Our new facilities in Selmer and Senatobia will keep our US customers at the cutting edge of the energy transition, and help them meet their performance, productivity and energy efficiency goals.”
