The Walvis Bay Power Project is 600MW gas fired power project. It is planned in Erongo, Namibia. The project is currently in permitting stage. It will be developed in multiple phases. The project construction is likely to commence in 2023 and is expected to enter into commercial operation in 2024.

Description
The project is being developed and currently owned by NamPower and Xaris Energy Namibia. The company’s ownership stake in the project stands as 30% respectively.
It is a gas turbine power plant that will be used for Baseload. The fuel will be procured from Walvis Gas Port LNG Terminal, Kudu Gas Field.
Development Status
The project construction is expected to commence from 2023. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2024.

The power generated from the project will be sold to NamPower under a power purchase agreement.
Contractors Involved
Garanti Koza Energy is expected to render EPC services for the gas fired power project.
Walvis Bay Power Project (Walvis Bay Power Project Phase I) will be equipped with GE Power LM6000-PC™Sprint®* – 50Hz gas turbines. The phase consists of 6 gas turbines with 50MW nameplate capacity.
KS Energy is expected to perform operations and maintenance for thermal power project.
