South and Central America power industry contracts in Q4 2019: Brazil leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, Brazil led the activity in Q4 2019 with 102 contracts and a share of 68.5%, up 62.2% over the previous quarter and up 437% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Chile with 21 contracts and a share of 14.1% and Colombia with 12 contracts and a share of 8.1% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, Brazil held the top spot with 19 contracts, followed by Argentina with 18 and Chile with five contracts.

Wind is top technology area for contracts in Q4 2019
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 72 contracts and a 47.7% share, followed by solar with 32 contracts and a 21.2% share and hydro with 31 contracts and a 20.5% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in South and Central America power contracts activity during Q4 2019, with 104 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (22) and Electricity Procurement (21).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 101 contracts and a 67.8% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 21 contracts and a 14.1% share
- Supply & Erection: 19 contracts and a 12.8% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: seven contracts and a 4.7% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 0.7% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in South and Central America were:
