South and Central America power industry contracts in Q2 2020: Brazil leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, Brazil led the activity in Q2 2020 with 20 contracts and a share of 37%, up 11.5% over the previous quarter and down 49% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Chile with 15 contracts and a share of 27.8% and Argentina with four contracts and a share of 7.4% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, Brazil held the top spot with 39 contracts, followed by Argentina with 13 and Chile with 12 contracts.

Wind is top technology area for contracts in Q2 2020
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 18 contracts and a 36.7% share, followed by solar with 15 contracts and a 30.6% share and hydro with nine contracts and an 18.4% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in South and Central America power contracts activity during Q2 2020, with 18 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (16) and T&D Project (12).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Power Purchase Agreement: 18 contracts and a 33.3% share
- Project Implementation: 15 contracts and a 27.8% share
- Supply & Erection: 15 contracts and a 27.8% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five contracts and a 9.3% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 1.9% share.
