South and Central America power industry contracts in Q1 2020: Brazil leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, Brazil led the activity in Q1 2020 with 14 contracts and a share of 26.4%, down 40.3% over the previous quarter and down 62% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Chile with 14 contracts and a share of 26.4% and Honduras with five contracts and a share of 9.4% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, Brazil held the top spot with 37 contracts, followed by Argentina with 13 and Chile with nine contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q1 2020
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 24 contracts and a 44.4% share, followed by thermal with 13 contracts and a 24.1% share and wind with 12 contracts and a 22.2% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in South and Central America power contracts activity during Q1 2020, with 23 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (18) and Electricity Procurement (11).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 19 contracts and a 35.8% share
- Supply & Erection: 13 contracts and a 24.5% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: nine contracts and a 17% share
