Shamb is a 171MW hydro power project. It is located on Vorotan river/basin in Syunik, Armenia. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. Post completion of construction, the project got commissioned in 1979.

Description

The project was developed by ContourGlobal. ContourGlobal and International Finance are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 80.3% and 19.7% respectively.

Shamb is a reservoir based project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 80 million cubic meter. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 1 in number. The penstock length is 1,260m. The penstock diameter is 2.2m. The project generated 320 GWh of electricity.

The project got commissioned in 1979.

Contractors Involved

Ukrainian Energy Machines was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 2 units of francis turbines, each with 85.5MW nameplate capacity.

Power Machines supplied 2 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 107 MVA.
