Description

The project was developed by THDC India and is currently owned by NTPC with a stake of 74.49%.

Tehri Dam & Hydro Power Plant is a reservoir based project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 3,540 million cubic meter. The gross head and net head of the project are 231.5m and 188m respectively. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 4 in number. The penstock length is 1,040m. The penstock diameter is 5.75m. The project generated 3,568 GWh of electricity.

Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam are the power offtakers from the project.

Contractors involved

GE Power India and Hindustan Construction were selected to render engineering procurement construction services for the hydro power project.

Ukrainian Energy Machines was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 4 units of francis turbines, each with 250MW nameplate capacity.

Bharat Heavy Electricals supplied 4 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 250 MVA.
