Description

Susquehanna 2 is a Generation II nuclear reactor developed by Bechtel and GE Power, are the main contractors for the project.

The 1,330MW reactor is operated by Susquehanna Nuclear. Talen Energy and Allegheny Electric Cooperative are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 90% and 10% respectively.

The BWR reactor generates 10,601.89GWh/annum of electricity. It features 764 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released. Safety contol rods that are used to control the fission rate in the reactor are 185 in number.

Development status

The reactor construction commenced in Nov, 1973 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Feb, 1985.

Contractors involved

The steam turbines for the reactor have been supplied by GE Power and Siemens. Bechtel was selected as an architect engineer for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by GE Power and Bechtel. The reactor vessel has been supplied by Chicago Bridge & Iron. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Alloyed Steel (SA 533 B). The civil works were carried out by Bechtel.
