Description

The project was developed by GE Power. Abu Dhabi National Energy, OQ SAOC and Rio Tinto are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 40%, 40% and 20% respectively.

It is a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant. The power plant run on dual-fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant is natural gas. In case of shortage of natural gas the plant can also run on Distillate Oil.

Development status

The project got commissioned in June 2008.

Oman Power and Water Procurement and Sohar Aluminium are the power offtakers from the project.

GE Power was selected to render engineering procurement construction services for the gas fired power project.

Sohar Aluminium Combined Cycle Power Plant (Sohar Aluminium Combined Cycle Power Plant Block I) is equipped with GE Power COMAX steam turbine. The phase consists of 1 steam turbine with 217MW nameplate capacity.
