Description

Ohi 4 is a Generation II nuclear reactor developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the main contractor for the project.

The 1,180MW reactor is owned and operated by The Kansai Electric Power.

The PWR reactor generates 9,636.22GWh/annum of electricity. It features 193 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released. Safety contol rods that are used to control the fission rate in the reactor are 24 in number.

Development status

The reactor construction commenced in June, 1988 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Feb, 1993.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was selected as the steam turbine supplier for the nuclear reactor. The company provided 1 steam turbine for the project. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and The Kansai Electric Power were selected as the architect engineers for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The reactor vessel has been supplied by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Alloyed Steel (SA 533/SA 508). The civil works were carried out by Kumagai Gumi Co., Ltd., Obayashi Corporation and Takenaka.
