Description

The project was developed by Mercury NZ. Mercury NZ and Tauhara North No.2 Trust are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 65% and 35% respectively.

The geothermal plant is of triple flash type. The geothermal site has in total 10 number of wells. Out of this 6 are production wells and remaining 4 are injection wells. Nga Awa Purua Geothermal Power Plant runs at a temperature of 270 Degree Celsius.

The project generates 1,100GWh electricity and supplies enough clean energy to power 140,000 households.

The project got commissioned in March 2010.

Contractors involved

Sumitomo was selected to render engineering procurement construction services for the geothermal power project.

Fuji Electric was selected as the steam turbine supplier for the geothermal power project.
