Description
The project is being developed by Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind. The project is co-owned by EDF Renewables and Electricity Supply Board, with their respective ownership stake of 50% each.
The project is expected to supply enough clean energy to power 375,000 households, to offset 400,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year. The project will be spread over an area of 105km². The turbines will be mounted on fixed jacket foundations and will be interconnected by 66kV inter-array cable.
Development status
The project construction is expected to commence from 2020. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2024.
Contractors involved
Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will be the turbine supplier for the wind power project. The company is expected to provide 54 units of SG 8.0-167 DD turbines, each with 8MW nameplate capacity.
Welcon is expected to supply towers for the wind power project.
