Description
The project is being developed by China International Water & Electric, Kohala Hydro and Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority. China International Water & Electric and Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority are currently owning the project.
Kohala is a run-of-river project. The hydro reservoir capacity is planned to be 19.9 million cubic meter. The gross head and net head of the project will be 316m and 290m respectively. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, is expected to be 2 in number. The penstock diameter will be 6.8m. The project is expected to generate 4,800 GWh of electricity.
The hydro power project consists of 4 units of francis turbines.
Development status
The project construction is expected to commence from 2027. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2031.
Power purchase agreement
The power generated from the project will be sold to National Transmission & Despatch under a power purchase agreement.
Contractors involved
China Three Gorges and Yangtze Three Gorges Technology and Economy Development are expected to render engineering procurement construction services for the hydro power project.
