Description

Hinkley Point C-1 is a Generation III+ nuclear reactor being developed by EDF Energy Holdings, the main contractor for the project.

The 1,720MW reactor will be operated by NNB Generation Co (HPC). EDF Energy Holdings and General Nuclear International are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 66.5% and 33.5% respectively.

Hinkley Point C-1 is a type of PWR reactor. It will feature 241 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released.

Development status

The reactor construction is expected to commence from Dec, 2018. Subsequent to that it will enter commercial operation by 2029.

Contractors involved

GE Power will be the steam turbine supplier for the nuclear reactor. Electricite de France is expected to be the architect engineer for the reactor. The reactor system is likely to be supplied by Framatome. The reactor vessel is expected to be supplied by Framatome. The material used for the construction of the vessel will be 16MNDS. The civil works will be carried out by Bouygues Travaux Publics SA and Laing O'Rourke.
