The project was developed by NTPC BHEL Power Projects and is currently owned by NTPC with a stake of 100%.

It is a Steam Turbine power plant. The power plant run on dual-fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant is coal. In case of shortage of coal the plant can also run on Light diesel oil /Heavy fuel oil /Low Sulphur Heavy Stock. The fuel is procured from North Karanpura Coal Fields.
