Description

The project was developed by Dona Francisca Energetica. Gerdau Acominas, Centrais Eletricas de Santa Catarina, Companhia Paranaense de Energia and Statkraft are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 51.82%, 23.03%, 23.03% and 2.12% respectively.

Dona Francisca is a run-of-river project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 335 million cubic meter. The gross head of the project is 38.15m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 2 in number. The penstock length is 85m. The penstock diameter is 6.3m. The project generated 679 GWh of electricity.

The project construction commenced in 1998 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2001.

Power purchase agreement

Celesc Geracao, Companhia Paranaense de Energia, Desenvix Energias Renovaveis and Gerdau are the power offtakers from the project.

Contractors involved

GE Renewable Energy was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 2 units of francis turbines, each with 64.2MW nameplate capacity.

GE Renewable Energy supplied 2 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 70 MVA.
