Power industry tenders in May 2021: North America leads global activity
On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 179 tenders and a share of 30.2% during May 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with 159 tenders and a 26.8% share and Asia-Pacific with 128 tenders and a 21.6% share.
In fourth place was Europe with 85 tenders and a 14.3% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 42 tenders and a 7.1% share.
On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 318 tenders, followed by North America with 230.

Thermal tops by technology in May 2021
Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 112 tenders and a 48.3% share, followed by solar with 84 tenders and a 36.2% share and wind with 15 tenders and a 6.5% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment during May 2021, with 265 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (122) and T&D Project (93).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 338 tenders and a 57% share
- Project Implementation: 136 tenders and a 22.9% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 93 tenders and a 15.7% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 15 tenders and a 2.5% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: six tenders and a 1% share
- Electricity Supply: three tenders and a 0.5% share
- Others: two tenders and a 0.3% share.
Power tenders in May 2021: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkey (Turkey): 4,000MW from one tender
- Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (Kuwait): 3,000MW from one tender
- Fitchburg Gas and Electric Light (United States), Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (United States), Massachusetts Electric (United States), Nantucket Electric (United States) and NSTAR Electric (United States): 1,600MW capacity from one tender.
