Power industry tenders in February 2020: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 505 tenders and a share of 65.6% during February 2020, followed by North America with 162 tenders and a 21% share and Europe with 64 tenders and an 8.3% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 37 tenders and a 4.8% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with two tenders and a 0.3% share.

Thermal tops by technology in February 2020

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 159 tenders and a 56.6% share, followed by solar with 95 tenders and a 33.8% share and hydro with 15 tenders and a 5.3% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment during February 2020, with 300 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (192) and Generation Equipment (161).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 325 tenders and a 42.2% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 297 tenders and a 38.6% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 123 tenders and a 16% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 17 tenders and a 2.2% share
  5. Electricity Supply: five tenders and a 0.6% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: three tenders and a 0.4% share.

Power tenders in February 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Ministry of Energy, Uzbekistan: 2,100MW from three tenders
  2. JSC National Electric Grids of Uzbekistan: 1,900MW from two tenders
  3. NTPC (India): 1,800.65MW capacity from three tenders.
