Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of contracts for the quarter, accounting for 223 contracts and a 77.7% share, followed by Offshore with 60 contracts and a 20.9% share. Onshore Repowered stood in third place with four contracts and a 1.4% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the second position in terms of number of contracts during Q1 2021 with a 30.3% share.
The proportion of contracts by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 114 contracts and a 40% share
- Project Implementation: 65 contracts and a 22.8% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 62 contracts and a 21.8% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 28 contracts and a 9.8% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: ten contracts and a 3.5% share
- Electricity Supply: six contracts and a 2.1% share.
Europe leads wind contracts activity in Q1 2021
Comparing contracts activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 158 contracts and a share of 55.4% during Q1 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 59 contracts and a 20.7% share and North America with 55 contracts and a 19.3% share.
In fourth place was South and Central America with ten contracts and a 3.5% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with three contracts and a 1.1% share.

The top issuers of contracts in Wind technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (United States): 2,490MW from one contract
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,200MW from four contracts
- Pattern Energy Group (United States): 1,050MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Equinor Wind US L (United States): 2,490MW from one contract
- Blattner Energy (United States): 1,395MW from two contracts
- JSW Energy (India): 450MW capacity from one contract.
