Power industry contracts in Q1 2020: Europe leads global activity
On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 319 contracts and a share of 34.7% during Q1 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 237 contracts and a 25.8% share and North America with 215 contracts and a 23.4% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 96 contracts and a 10.4% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 53 contracts and a 5.8% share.
On the basis of the last four-quarter average, Europe held a lead over others with 352 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 230.

Solar tops by technology in Q1 2020
Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 353 contracts and a 46.4% share, followed by wind with 211 contracts and a 27.7% share and thermal with 85 contracts and an 11.2% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in global power contracts activity during Q1 2020, with 343 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (224) and Electricity Procurement (158).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 334 contracts and a 36.3% share
- Supply & Erection: 333 contracts and a 36.2% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 138 contracts and a 15% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 56 contracts and a 6.1% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 41 contracts and a 4.5% share
- Electricity Supply: 18 contracts and a 2% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Emirates Water and Electricity (United Arab Emirates): 7,200MW from three contracts
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,400MW from six contracts
- JERA (Japan): 1,950MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Marubeni (Japan): 5,600MW from three contracts
- Gemma Power Systems L (United States): 2,655MW from three contracts
- China Gezhouba Group International Engineering (China): 2,550MW capacity from four contracts.
