Middle East and Africa power industry contracts in December 2021: Saudi Arabia leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, Saudi Arabia led the activity in December 2021 with 13 contracts and a share of 43.3%, up 26.1% over the previous month and up 117% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by the United Arab Emirates with three contracts and a share of 10% and Egypt with two contracts and a share of 6.7% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, Saudi Arabia held the top spot with six contracts, followed by South Africa with three and the United Arab Emirates with three contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in December 2021
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with eight contracts and a 66.7% share, followed by thermal with four contracts and a 33.3% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in December 2021, with 14 contracts, followed by Power Plant (6) and Generation Equipment (4).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 18 contracts and a 60% share
- Supply & Erection: nine contracts and a 30% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: two contracts and a 6.7% share
