Power industry contracts in March 2020: Asia-Pacific leads global activity
On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 96 contracts and a share of 32% during March 2020, followed by Europe with 77 contracts and a 25.7% share and North America with 75 contracts and a 25% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 32 contracts and a 10.7% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 20 contracts and a 6.7% share.
On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 122 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 76.

Solar tops by technology in March 2020
Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 103 contracts and a 42.2% share, followed by wind with 76 contracts and a 31.1% share and thermal with 31 contracts and a 12.7% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment during March 2020, with 104 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (92) and T&D Equipment (49).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 135 contracts and a 45% share
- Project Implementation: 99 contracts and a 33% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 33 contracts and an 11% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 21 contracts and a 7% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 11 contracts and a 3.7% share
- Electricity Supply: one contract and a 0.3% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- JERA (Japan): 1,950MW from one contract
- Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbekistan): 1,500MW from one contract
- New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (United States): 1,277.29MW capacity from 20 contracts.
Power contracts in March 2020: Top winners by capacity
The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Mitsubishi Electric (Japan) and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (Japan): 1,950MW from one contract
- Gemma Power Systems L (United States): 1,570MW from two contracts
- ACWA Power International (Saudi Arabia): 1,500MW capacity from one contract.
