Power industry contracts in July 2020: Europe leads global activity
On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 148 contracts and a share of 45.7% during July 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 71 contracts and a 21.9% share and North America with 56 contracts and a 17.3% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 28 contracts and an 8.6% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 21 contracts and a 6.5% share.
On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 145 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 82.

Solar tops by technology in July 2020
Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 86 contracts and a 36.4% share, followed by wind with 86 contracts and a 36.4% share and thermal with 35 contracts and a 14.8% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment during July 2020, with 97 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (85) and T&D Equipment (62).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 141 contracts and a 43.5% share
- Project Implementation: 78 contracts and a 24.1% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 49 contracts and a 15.1% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 29 contracts and a 9% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 19 contracts and a 5.9% share
- Electricity Supply: eight contracts and a 2.5% share.
Power contracts in July 2020: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 4,001.95MW from two contracts
- Binh Thuan People’s Committee: 3,500MW from one contract
- Emirates Water and Electricity (United Arab Emirates): 2,000MW capacity from one contract.
Power contracts in July 2020: Top winners by capacity
The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Azure Power (India): 4,000MW from one contract
- Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners KS (Denmark): 3,900MW from two contracts
- Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates), Abu Dhabi National Energy (United Arab Emirates), EDF Renewables (France) and Jinko Power Technology (China): 2,000MW capacity from one contract.
