Power industry contracts in April 2021: Asia-Pacific leads global activity
On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 63 contracts and a share of 32.6% during April 2021, followed by Europe with 56 contracts and a 29% share and North America with 35 contracts and an 18.1% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 29 contracts and a 15% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with ten contracts and a 5.2% share.
On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 199 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 104.

Solar tops by technology in April 2021
Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 95 contracts and a 53.1% share, followed by wind with 52 contracts and a 29.1% share and thermal with 19 contracts and a 10.6% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment during April 2021, with 69 contracts, followed by Power Plant (58) and Generation Equipment (42).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Power Purchase Agreement: 60 contracts and a 31.1% share
- Supply & Erection: 51 contracts and a 26.4% share
- Project Implementation: 49 contracts and a 25.4% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 20 contracts and a 10.4% share
- Electricity Supply: nine contracts and a 4.7% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 1.6% share
- Others: one contract and a 0.5% share.
Power contracts in April 2021: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Saudi Power Procurement (Saudi Arabia): 2,970MW from seven contracts
- The Saudi Public Investment Fund (Saudi Arabia) and ACWA Power International (Saudi Arabia): 1,500MW from one contract
- Yuneng Group and State Power Investment (China): 1,320MW capacity from one contract.
Power contracts in April 2021: Top winners by capacity
The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 2,610MW from five contracts
- ACWA Power International (Saudi Arabia): 2,500MW from four contracts
- Shanghai Electric Power Construction (China): 2,200MW capacity from two contracts.
