North America power industry contracts in Q4 2019: The US leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in Q4 2019 with 120 contracts and a share of 85.7%, down 3.6% over the previous quarter and down 15% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Canada with ten contracts and a share of 7.1% and Mexico with ten contracts and a share of 7.1% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, the US held the top spot with 142 contracts, followed by Canada with nine and Mexico with eight contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q4 2019
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 64 contracts and a 49.2% share, followed by wind with 42 contracts and a 32.3% share and thermal with 19 contracts and a 14.6% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in North America power contracts activity during Q4 2019, with 47 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (41) and Power Plant (38).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 47 contracts and a 33.6% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 44 contracts and a 31.4% share
- Project Implementation: 31 contracts and a 22.1% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 13 contracts and a 9.3% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 2.1% share
- Electricity Supply: two contracts and a 1.4% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:
- Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (United States) and Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (United States): 804MW from one contract
- Commonwealth of Virginia (United States): 420MW from one contract
- McDonald’s: 380MW capacity from two contracts.
