North America power industry contracts in April 2021: The US leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in April 2021 with 29 contracts and a share of 82.9%, down 11.6% over the previous month and down 57% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with five contracts and a share of 14.3% and Mexico with one contract and a share of 2.9% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 67 contracts, followed by Canada with six and Mexico with one contract.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in April 2021
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 25 contracts and a 71.4% share, followed by wind with eight contracts and a 22.9% share and thermal with two contracts and a 5.7% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in April 2021, with 23 contracts, followed by Power Plant (8) and Energy Storage (4).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Power Purchase Agreement: 19 contracts and a 54.3% share
- Project Implementation: seven contracts and a 20% share
- Supply & Erection: five contracts and a 14.3% share
- Electricity Supply: four contracts and an 11.4% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:
- Black Hills Energy (United States), Invenergy L (United States) and Northern Indiana Public Service Co L (United States): 200MW from one contract
- Advanced Power (Switzerland): 140MW from one contract
- Amazon Web Services (United States) and Steelhead Americas L (United States): 118MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:
- APR Energy (United States): 330MW from one contract
- National Grid Renewables L (United States): 250MW from three contracts
- Capital Dynamics (United States): 206.5MW capacity from two contracts.
