Suzlon Group, an India-based manufacturer and seller of wind turbines, has entered into a definitive agreement with EverPower Wind to sell the Big Sky wind project located in Illinois, the US.
The 240MW project was recently acquired by Suzlon’s US-based subsidiary Suzlon Wind Energy from Edison Mission Energy.
With the acquisition, EverPower is expected to be the country’s 18th largest wind generator with a combined capacity of 752MW.
Suzlon Wind Energy CEO Duncan Koerbel said, "The SWECO OMS team looks forward to partnering with EverPower to maintain the high standards of availability and reliability at Big Sky that we have seen since operations started at Big Sky four years ago."
The Big Sky project, which was completed in 2011, features 114 Suzlon 2.1MW S88 turbines that generate enough electricity annually to power approximately 50,000 homes while reducing more than 225,000t of CO2 emissions.
The acquisition is said to be part of the company’s plan to divest non-critical assets and raise money to enhance its business operations.
