Nautricity and Argyll Tidal have unveiled plans to build a tidal energy project in the Mull of Kintyre, off the west coast of Scotland.

The companies received permission from the Crown Estate to install six 500KW CoRMaT tidal turbines in the Irish Sea.

The project is expected to supply more than 10GW/h of electricity to meet the power needs of 2,700 homes.

Argyll Tidal will also conduct an environmental impact assessment and a community and stakeholder engagement exercise, which will be complete in two years.

The proposed technology would save more than 3,000t of CO2 emissions.

The project is being developed by Thames Tidal, a joint venture involving Energy Invest, a UK-based developer and financier of clean energy projects.
