E.ON has commenced construction of its Twin Forks Windfarm in Macon County, which is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
This is E.ON's third facility of its type in Illinois and once completed, it will provide an addition of 278MW to the total wind generation capacity. The three facilities together will generate 578MW, which will provide electricity to more than 180,000 homes.
E.ON's North America chairman Patrick Woodson said: "Turning dirt and getting started on construction is always an exciting time for us, as it marks the next step in a lengthy development process.
"It is always great to work with local communities in Macon County to turn projects like this into a reality as physical construction begins.
"E.ON's windfarms not only produce clean, renewable power, but create jobs, give farmers and land owners additional sources of income, and help local officials improve schools and other critical public services."
The firm began a series of public road upgrades in Austin, Maroa, Illini, and Hickory Point to facilitate turbine construction.
