Alstom T&D India has won a €20.1m contract from Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) to supply equipment at various centres in the northern part of the country.
Under the deal, Alstom will extend air-insulated substations (AIS) at 14 sites across five Indian states, and 765kV reactors at Bhiwani.
Alstom said the expansion will reduce transmission line overloading and improve grid stability in north India.
Alstom will be in charge for design, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of 765kV, 400kV and 220kV AIS equipment, along with civil works.The company will also be responsible for 765kV reactors at Bhiwani and 50 MVAR shunt reactor for one of the substations.
Alstom will manufacture necessary equipment for the project at its transformer manufacturing facilities across India.
Alstom will upgrade 765/400kV substations at Bhiwani along with 400/220kV substations at Hissar, Allahabad, Kanpur, Singrauli, Kota, Koteshwar, Rajpura, Panchkula, Patiala, Dhuri, Makhu, Mukstar and Nakodar in the northern region of India.

Alstom T&D India managing director Rathin Basu said that more than 50% of India’s 765kV extra-high voltage substations are built with the company’s technology and solutions.
"This prestigious and challenging project reaffirms our leadership position in the 765kV turnkey substation market," Basu added.
In 2012, Alstom T&D India has commissioned three switchyard bays, 765kV and 400kV each, at Bhiwani with in a period of eight months for PGCIL.
