New Babil Substation project development status

The development of the New Babil Substation project was approved by Ministry of Electricity, Iraq in 2020. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2022. Approximately $94m was financed by the authorities to undertake the construction works of the project.

Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) and Toshiba Transmission and Distribution Systems Gulf was appointed by Ministry of Electricity, Iraq to supply the equipment for the New Babil Substation.

The ministry is responsible for generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in Iraq. MEI classifies its operations into DG of production, DG of transmission, DG of distribution and DG of projects. It imports electricity from these countries to meet Iraq’s excess electricity demand.
