Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in May 2021: South Africa leads activity
Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in May 2021 with 84 tenders and a share of 53.8%, down 1.7% over the previous month and up 87% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Kenya with 16 tenders and a share of 10.3% and Oman with eight tenders and a share of 5.1% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 45 tenders, followed by Kenya with eight and Oman with four tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in May 2021
Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 23 tenders and a 57.5% share, followed by thermal with 12 tenders and a 30% share and hydro with three tenders and a 7.5% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in May 2021, with 90 tenders, followed by T&D Project (25) and Power Plant (19).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 100 tenders and a 64.1% share
- Project Implementation: 32 tenders and a 20.5% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 18 tenders and an 11.5% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: six tenders and a 3.8% share.

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (Kuwait): 3,000MW from one tender
