Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in January 2021: South Africa leads activity
Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in January 2021 with 34 tenders and a share of 28.3%, up 4.8% over the previous month and up 100% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Kenya with 11 tenders and a share of 9.2% and Namibia with eight tenders and a share of 6.7% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 17 tenders, followed by Kenya with four and Oman with three tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in January 2021
Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 37 tenders and a 57.8% share, followed by thermal with 21 tenders and a 32.8% share and hydro with three tenders and a 4.7% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in January 2021, with 36 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (32) and Generation Equipment (24).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 49 tenders and a 40.8% share
- Project Implementation: 41 tenders and a 34.2% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 21 tenders and a 17.5% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: nine tenders and a 7.5% share.
Power tenders in January 2021: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Morocco): 400MW from one tender
- Tanzania Electric Supply (Tanzania): 99MW from two tenders
- Ministere de l’Energie des Mines et des Energies Renouvelables (Tunisia): 70MW capacity from one tender.
