Middle East and Africa power industry contracts in April 2021: Saudi Arabia leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, Saudi Arabia led the activity in April 2021 with 14 contracts and a share of 48.3%, up 3.9% over the previous month and up 250% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Iran with two contracts and a share of 6.9% and the United Arab Emirates with two contracts and a share of 6.9% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, Saudi Arabia held the top spot with four contracts, followed by the United Arab Emirates with two and Egypt with two contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in April 2021
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 15 contracts and a 78.9% share, followed by thermal with two contracts and a 10.5% share and wind with one contract and a 5.3% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in April 2021, with nine contracts, followed by T&D Project (8) and Power Plant (7).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Power Purchase Agreement: nine contracts and a 31% share
- Project Implementation: nine contracts and a 31% share
- Supply & Erection: five contracts and a 17.2% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: four contracts and a 13.8% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two contracts and a 6.9% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- Saudi Power Procurement (Saudi Arabia): 2,970MW from seven contracts
- The Saudi Public Investment Fund (Saudi Arabia) and ACWA Power International (Saudi Arabia): 1,500MW from one contract
- EDF Renouvelables (France), Nesma Holding, Renewable Energy Project Development Office (Saudi Arabia) and Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates): 300MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- ACWA Power International (Saudi Arabia): 2,500MW from four contracts
- Larsen & Toubro (India): 1,800MW from two contracts
- The Saudi Public Investment Fund (Saudi Arabia): 1,500MW capacity from one contract.
