The H2 total for renewable energy auctions was up 188% year on year compared with the total of 24 auctions in H1 2021.
Renewable energy auctions in H2 2021: Europe leads global activity
On comparing renewable energy auctions in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 51 auctions and a share of 73.9% during H2 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 16 auctions and a 23.2% share and South and Central America with two auctions and a 2.9% share.
Solar is top technology area for renewable energy auctions in H2 2021
Looking at renewable energy auctions divided by the type of technology, Solar accounted for the largest proportion with 54 auctions and a 55.1% share, followed by Wind with 38 auctions and a 38.8% share and Hydro with five auctions and a 5.1% share.
Renewable energy auctions in H2 2021: Top companies by auctioned capacity
- Ministere de l’Environnement, de l’Energie et de la Mer (France): 17,975MW from 47 auctions
- Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (United Kingdom): 12,000MW from one auction
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 3,700MW from four auctions.
