Power industry contracts in Q2 2019: Europe leads global activity
On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 228 contracts and a share of 32.7% during Q2 2019, followed by Asia-Pacific with 197 contracts and a 28.2% share and North America with 171 contracts and a 24.5% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 73 contracts and a 10.5% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 29 contracts and a 4.2% share.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, Europe held a lead over other regions with 329 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 305.

Solar is top technology for contracts activity in Q2 2019
Looking at contracts by the type of technology, Solar accounted for the largest proportion with 263 contracts and a 41% share, followed by Wind with 230 contracts and a 35.9% share and Thermal with 70 contracts and a 10.9% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in global power contracts activity during Q2 2019, with 252 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (211) and Electricity Procurement (162).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation with 226 contracts and a 32.4% share
- Supply & Erection with 217 contracts and a 31.1% share
- Power Purchase Agreement with 132 contracts and an 18.9% share.
Power contracts in Q2 2019: Top companies by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India) with 3,210MW from 17 contracts
- China National Nuclear (China) with 2,400MW from one contract
- Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (India) with 1,495MW capacity from 14 contracts.

- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India) with 3,010MW from seven contracts
- State Atomic Energy Rosatom (Russia) with 2,400MW from one contract
- Siemens (Germany) with 1,800MW from two contracts.
