Europe power industry contracts in Q2 2021: France leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, France led the activity in Q2 2021 with 56 contracts and a share of 13.9%, down 11.1% over the previous quarter and down 61% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Greece with 52 contracts and a share of 12.9% and the UK with 44 contracts and a share of 10.9% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, France held the top spot with 143 contracts, followed by the UK with 76 and Spain with 56 contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q2 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 166 contracts and a 44.9% share, followed by wind with 162 contracts and a 43.8% share and hydro with 16 contracts and a 4.3% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in Europe power contracts activity during Q2 2021, with 182 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (94) and Electricity Procurement (81).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 156 contracts and a 38.6% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 107 contracts and a 26.5% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 65 contracts and a 16.1% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 41 contracts and a 10.1% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 28 contracts and a 6.9% share
  6. Electricity Supply: five contracts and a 1.2% share
  7. Others: two contracts and a 0.5% share.

Power contracts in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Urzad Regulacji Energetyki (Poland): 5,530MW from four contracts
  2. Neoen (France): 404MW from one contract
  3. The Regulatory Authority for Energy (Greece): 349.89MW capacity from 49 contracts.

Power contracts in Q2 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Orsted (Denmark): 2,633MW from two contracts
  2. EW Baltica two sp z oo (Poland) and EW Baltica three (Poland): 2,543MW from one contract
  3. Equinor (Norway) and Polenergia (Poland): 1,440MW capacity from one contract.
