El Cajon is a 300MW hydro power project. It is located on Humuya river/basin in Cortes, Honduras. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. Post completion of construction, the project got commissioned in 1985.

Description

The project is currently owned by Empresa Nacional de Energia Electrica.

The hydro reservoir capacity is 5,700 million cubic meter. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 3 in number. The penstock diameter is 4.8m.

Contractors Involved

Andritz Hydro was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 4 units of francis turbines, each with 75MW nameplate capacity.
