The project is currently owned by Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam.
Chilla is a run-of-river project. The gross head of the project is 32.5m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 4 in number. The penstock length is 55m. The penstock diameter is 6m. The project generated 671.29 GWh of electricity.

Bharat Heavy Electricals was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 4 units of kaplan turbines, each with 36MW nameplate capacity.
