Description
The project was developed by Companhia Energetica Rio das Antas. CPFL Energia, Companhia Estadual de Geracao e Transmissao de Energia Eletrica and Statkraft Energias Renovaveis are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 65%, 30% and 5% respectively.
Castro Alves is a run-of-river project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 91.77 million cubic meter. The gross head and net head of the project are 86.4m and 83.6m respectively. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 3 in number. The penstock length is 180m. The penstock diameter is 4m. The project generated 500,625 MWh of electricity. The project cost is $365.466m.
