The Azores Terceira Battery Energy Storage System is a 15,000kW energy storage project located in Terceira, Azores, Portugal.
The project will be commissioned in 2021.
Description
The key applications of the project are frequency regulation and voltage control, spinning reserve and store surplus renewable energy.
Contractors involved
Fluence Energy is the technology provider for the project.
Additional information
Installed alongside hydroelectric, wind and geothermal energy resources the battery storage system will perform frequency regulation and voltage control for the grid, provide spinning reserve and store surplus renewable energy.
Siemens Smart Infrastructure and Fluence have been awarded a contract by the Portuguese energy provider EDA – Electricidade dos Açores to build a battery-based energy storage system on Terceira.
