Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in Q2 2020: India leads activity
Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in Q2 2020 with 871 tenders and a share of 67.8%, up 13.7% over the previous quarter and down 10% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Bangladesh with 126 tenders and a share of 9.8% and the Philippines with 92 tenders and a share of 7.2% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, India held the top spot with 970 tenders, followed by Bangladesh with 272 and the Philippines with 271 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in Q2 2020
Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 172 tenders and a 47.6% share, followed by thermal with 142 tenders and a 39.3% share and hydro with 36 tenders and a 10% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in Asia-Pacific power tenders activity during Q2 2020, with 593 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (365) and Power Plant (177).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 553 tenders and a 43.1% share
- Supply & Erection: 379 tenders and a 29.5% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 327 tenders and a 25.5% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 17 tenders and a 1.3% share
- Electricity Supply: six tenders and a 0.5% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 0.2% share.
Power tenders in Q2 2020: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:
- Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, India (India): 10,000MW from one tender
- NHPC (India): 2,930MW from two tenders
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,525MW capacity from three tenders.
