The global power industry noticed a 10.0% rise in IT hiring activity in February 2021 over the previous month, led by Siemens’s 36.16% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The power industry’s overall hiring activity increased 8.58% when compared with January 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for an 8.63% share of the global power industry’s hiring activity in February 2021, up 0.37% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of February 2021 were 1.48% lower compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 2.9% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 49.46% emerged as the top IT occupation in the power hiring activity in February 2021, a 2.56% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 14.85% in February 2021, up 0.59% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer Support Specialists with an 11.09% share in February 2021, decline of 26.22% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with an 11.04% share in February 2021 and rise of 11.84% over January 2021.
Top five power companies by recruitment activity in February 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 5.19% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global power industry during February 2021 over January 2021.
Siemens posted 835 IT jobs in February 2021 and registered a drop of 3.91% over the previous month, followed by Companhia de Transmissao de Energia Eletrica Paulista with 145 jobs and a 44.23% decline. Enel with 101 IT jobs and Schneider Electric with 92 jobs, recorded a 48.53% increase and a 53.33% growth, respectively, while NextEra Energy recorded a 30.19% growth with 69 job postings during February 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in power industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global power IT hiring activity in February 2021 with a 40.93% share, which marked a 4.54% growth over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 26.2%, registering a 9.02% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 21.39% share and a 10.27% rise over January 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 10% and a month-on-month drop of 31.25%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.47%, registering a 17.24% increase over the previous month.
