The global power industry noticed a 13.4% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2022 over the previous month, led by Siemens 17.36% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The power industry’s overall hiring activity declined 9.98% when compared with October 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for an 8.34% share of the global power industry’s hiring activity in November 2022, down 0.44% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of November 2022 were 16.15% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 37.3% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 39.29% emerged as the top IT occupation in the power hiring activity in November 2022, a 28.5% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 24.67% in November 2022, down 15.1% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 16.13% share in November 2022, a decline of 20.28% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 12.5% share in November 2022 and a drop of 30.81% over October 2022.
Top five power companies by recruitment activity in November 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 4.83% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global power industry during November 2022 over October 2022.
Siemens posted 368 IT jobs in November 2022 and registered a rise of 2.79% over the previous month, followed by NextEra Energy with 134 jobs and a 4.69% growth. Advanced Energy Industries with 93 IT jobs and Umicore with 73 jobs, recorded a 2225% growth and a 48.59% drop, respectively, while Sunrun recorded a 2.78% drop with 70 job postings during November 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in power industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global power IT hiring activity in November 2022 with a 53.54% share, which marked a 24.53% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 29.67%, registering a 27.2% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 15% share and a 20.7% drop over October 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.46% and a month-on-month drop of 40.38%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.33%, registering a 68.18% decrease over the previous month.
