Europe’s power industry saw a drop of 21.6% in deal activity during April 2019, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 40 power industry deals worth $1.94bn were announced for the region in April 2019, against the 12-month average of 51 deals.
Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in April 2019 with 30 transactions, representing a 75% share for the region.
In second place was private equity with six deals, followed by venture financing deals with four transactions, respectively capturing a 15% and 10% share of the overall deal activity for the month.

Europe power industry deals in April 2019: Top deals
The top five power deals accounted for 49.3% of the overall value during April 2019.
The combined value of the top five power deals stood at $955.9m, against the overall value of $1.94bn recorded for the month. The top announced power deal tracked by GlobalData in April 2019 was EBM and EOS Holding’s $489.49m acquisition of Alpiq.
In second place was the $211m asset transaction with The AES by Energeticky a Prumyslovy Holding, Mitsui & Co, and Nebras Power and in third place was Duet Private Equity’s $158.89m private equity deal with Gas Natural Fenosa Furnizare Energie and Red Union Fenosa.
The $65.33m asset transaction with Scottish Equity Partners by Pensions Infrastructure Platform and AQ Group’s acquisition of Trafotek for $31.2m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
