Description
Ohi 3 is a Generation II nuclear reactor developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the main contractor for the project.
The 1,180MW reactor is owned and operated by The Kansai Electric Power.
The PWR reactor generates 4,866.36GWh/annum of electricity. It features 193 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released. Safety contol rods that are used to control the fission rate in the reactor are 24 in number.

The reactor construction commenced in Oct, 1987 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Dec, 1991.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and The Kansai Electric Power were selected as the architect engineers for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The reactor vessel has been supplied by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Alloyed Steel (SA 533/SA 508). The civil works were carried out by Kumagai Gumi Co., Ltd., Obayashi Corporation and Takenaka.
