Description
The project was developed by Building Energy. Old Mutual Life Assurance Co (South Africa) and Building Energy are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 62.5% and 10% respectively.
Kathu Solar PV Park is a ground-mounted solar project which is spread over an area of 210 hectares.
The project generates 181,000MWh electricity and supplies enough clean energy to power 57,000 households, offsetting 179,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year.
Development status
The project got commissioned in August 2014.
Power purchase agreement
The power generated from the project is sold to Eskom Holdings SOC under a power purchase agreement for a period of 20 years. The contracted capacity is 75MW.
Contractors involved
Building Energy was selected to render engineering procurement construction services for the solar PV power project.
JinkoSolar Holding was selected as the supplier of the PV modules for the project. The company provided 344,540 modules each with 230W of nameplate capacity.
The inverters were procured from Elettronica Santerno for the project.
The project is utilising single axis trackers supplied by Energia ERCAM.
