Description

The project was developed by Jaiprakash Power Ventures and is currently owned by JSW Hydro Energy with a stake of 100%.

Karcham Wangtoo is a run-of-river project. The gross head and net head of the project are 298.73m and 275.93m respectively. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 4 in number. The penstock length is 290.5m. The penstock diameter is 4.75m. The project generated 4,463.88 GWh of electricity.

The project construction commenced in 2005 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2011.

Power purchase agreement

Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, Punjab State Power and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam are the power offtakers from the project.

Contractors involved

Andritz Hydro was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 4 units of francis turbines, each with 255MW nameplate capacity.

Voith Hydro Holding supplied 4 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 340 MVA.
