Description
The project is being developed by VELD Renewables. Elawan Energy, PLAN 8 and Pele Green Energy are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 35%, 35% and 30% respectively.
The project is expected to generate 375,000MWh electricity and supply enough clean energy to power 110,000 households. The project is expected to offset 38,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year.
Development status
The project construction is expected to commence from 2018. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2023.
Power purchase agreement
The power generated from the project will be sold to Eskom Holdings SOC under a power purchase agreement. The power will be sold at the rate of $0.055kWh for a period of 20 years. The capacity to be procured is 107.1MW.
Contractors involved
Nordex will be the turbine supplier for the wind power project. The company is expected to provide 34 units of AW125/3150 turbines, each with 3.15MW nameplate capacity.
Nordex and Pele Green Energy are expected to be contracted for rendering of operations & maintenance services for the project.
The wind power project will consists of Concrete towers to be supplied Nordex. These towers will be around 100m high.
